In the wake of the recent allegiations surrounding Batas Group, NADA Automobile Association of Nepal (NADA), the governing body of automobile dealers in Nepal, has issued a press statement demanding government bodies to treat automobile entreprenuers with dignity. As per the statement, NADA has drawn serious attention to the inappropriate treatment of Batas Group which has been dragged into multiple controversies of late. The group which landed itself in the controversy surrounding the construction of a cafeteria at Narayanhiti Durbar did participate in the legal tender process legally and obtained permission from the government to operate the cafeteria on the condition of paying the rent fixed by the government, says NADA. It is a natural process for the private sector to do businesses with the permission of the government itself. However, attempts have been now made to defame the Batas Group as a criminal group, saying that it was illegal for the Batas group to carry out its responsibilities even after getting permission from the government. This is biased and unlawful, says NADA.NADA believes that any allegation should be investigated and punished only after the allegation is proved and this is what the general principle of law says. It cannot be justified in any sense to start the process of action without even giving an opportunity of explanation on the basis of news. Attempts to demoralize the entire private sector by unilaterally blaming only the entrepreneurs in the context of the government's permission to conduct business will also have a negative impact on the investment climate in Nepal, further says NADA.The contribution of the automobile sector to Nepal's economy is more than 25 percent and the automobile sector has been providing employment to more than 1.7 million people in the country. NADA, since its inception, has always raised its voice to support entrepreneurs who are doing their businesses lawfully.
